Maine Maritime Given $16,000 Kummerman Grant
Maine Maritime Academy at Castine has been awarded a grant of $16,000 by the Henri Kummerman Foundation.
Set up in 1977 by the president of the International MacGregor Organization, worldrenowned designers and supplier of marine cargo access equipment, the Henri Kummerman Foundation has the express purpose of advancing education and research in the field of maritime transport. Maine Maritime Academy is currently involved in establishing a Center of Advanced Maritime Studies, and receipt of the award from the Kummerman Foundation is considered timely and encouraging. Commenting on the donation from the Foundation, Adm. Edward A. Rogers, superintendent of Maine Maritime Academy, said that Henri Kummerman's boundless energy and enthusiasm for furthering maritime education was acknowledged throughout the U.S. marine industries, and this latest example of his continuing interest would be deeply appreciated by students and graduates of the Academy.
Maine Maritime already awards an annual Henri Kummerman Foundation r e s e a r ch grant to a junior class student, and funds have also been made available from the Foundation to the Webb Institute, New York Maritime College, and the University of Connecticut in order to assist selected students in the pursuit of their studies.
